Processing water fowl using the MPU

Note: This was announced for December 2, but the date has changed to December 9th, 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM. The charge of $40 includes 2018 individual membership in SBFNH. Additional people from the same farm, $5 extra. You can bring your own birds (BYOB!) and get hands-on experience with your own or other ducks and geese.

Come join us for a hands on, educational experience turning live water birds and poultry into meat! We’ll cover all aspects of this accessible, empowering skill, including slaughter, dressing, butchering, meat preservation, anatomy, and more — with an eye towards using traditional methods and all parts of the animal. Our work will start from a context of connection and gratitude. Afterwords, you’ll be confident and comfortable enough to do this on your own, at home, with basic equipment.

Felix Lufkin works with Ape and Ape, Inc, a cooperative offering on site butchering services and workshops throughout New England. We educate and train the client according to their interests, empowering those we work with to become comfortable in taking on the butchering of their own livestock in the future, preserving and curing meat, and making use of all parts of animal, closing an important part of the circle of life on a farm or homestead.

Location: Phoenix Farm in Marlborough. We will be using the Mobile Processing Unit and it will count as a training for renting the MPU.
